OSBORNE, Dorothy Margaret Scott Born: October 15, 1924 - Winnipeg, Manitoba . Died: March 13, 2009 - Kelowna, British Columbia. After a lengthy struggle with health related issues, Dorothy passed away quietly at Sutherland Hills Rest Home. She is survived by her brother James Scott (Loreta) and her children: Marilyn (Joseph) Sarkor, Laurel (Don) Miller, Cam (Shannon) Osborne, James (Karen) Osborne, and Randy (Trudy) Osborne. She was very proud of her grandchildren: Michael Sarkor, Miata (Ray) Dubrule, Matthew (Andrea) Sarkor, Chris (Lucy) Miller; Jennifer Miller, Brianna and Brendan Osborne, Krista (Nathan) Carter, Jonathan (Joey) Osborne, Brianna (Trevor Bergen) and Brendan; and delighted in her great-grandchildren: Celine, Angelina and Elisa Dubrule; Isaiah, Jada and Ethan Sarkor and Austin and Avery Miller. Dorothy was born and grew up in Winnipeg, where she attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated with a BA from United College. After marrying Darrell, a recently matriculated Doctor of Medicine, they moved to Kamloops, BC, where they raised five children. Deciding to go back to University to obtain her Masters in Social Work degree, Dorothy graduated from U.B.C. in 1974. Once all of their children had moved on with their lives, Dorothy and Darrell continued their careers as Baptist missionaries, serving seventeen years in Nigeria and three years in Macau. Upon their return to Canada in 1995, they retired and settled in Kelowna. After losing Darrell in May of 2000, Dorothy continued to minister to many friends and family, as well as residents in care facilities, often taking her dog, Hailey, for visits. Throughout her life, Dorothy was known to delight in the "serendipity" of the moment - ever curious, ever gracious in the opportunities that came her way. She enjoyed family gatherings, the art of conversation, gardening, music, scrabble, crosswords, Tai Chi exercise, swimming, line dancing, reading and going for walks. As a lifelong learner, Dorothy's interest in others, listening ear, and simple faith in God enriched the lives of those blessed to know her. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation, 4-1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 9M9.
