BRETT MATTHEW HADDOW . January 5, 1968 - March 26, 2009. Taken from us suddenly in a tragic accident in Maple Ridge, B.C. Left to mourn his passing are parents Janis Eaglesham and Gordon (Amelia) Haddow, sisters Gina Haddow Rubin and Shelah (Cornel) Lencar, grandmother Mildred Rubin, nephews Jake Rumsey and Constantin Lencar, and many friends, associates, and extended family members including Bob Jackson. Predeceased by sister Tobi Haddow and Ronald Rubin. Born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Brett moved to Vancouver, B.C. as a child, eventually settling with his family in Maple Ridge, where he attended Garibaldi High School. Early on in his life, he learned the value of hard work, and he went forward into adulthood with a strong work ethic that served him well. Brett understood that work was only a means to an end, not an end in itself, and he dedicated his life to the pursuit of sports, the camaraderie of friends, and the care and support of his family. Brett had a strong sense of honour and justice that he brought to his activities both on and off the job, and was always willing to protect those less able to defend themselves. We are all very proud of him. He was a good son, a good brother, a good uncle, and a good friend. The family wishes to thank everyone who was involved in the heroic attempt to save Brett's life: The Maple Ridge Fire Department, Ambulance Service, RCMP, and the staff at Royal Columbian Hospital. Consistent with Brett's wishes, no service will be held. His remains will be cremated with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancity Community Foundation - Chiron Fund, P.O. Box 2120, Station Terminal, Vancouver, B.C., V6B 5R8 or the charity of your choice
