Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

INGRID MARIA CAINES. 1944 - 2009 .Ingrid passed away peacefully on August 5, 2009 at Kamloops Hospice House with her family by her side after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Ingrid leaves to mourn, her husband and best friend Bob, son Shawn (Caroline), daughters Shana Parker (Andrew) and Sara Vaughan (Todd), three beloved grandchildren Hayden, Mackenzie and Joshua; also her parents Chris and Margaret Laursen, sisters Linda Hunt (Noel), Karen Giddings (Randy), Christine Laursen (Murray), Lisa Dohnalek (Bob) and Sonya Smoley (Joe); brother Christian (Robbin) and brother-in-law Stan Caines (Fredis). Ingrid was predeceased by two infant children, Ian and Dana. Ingrid was born and raised in BC and ventured to Labrador in 1963 where she met Bob and married in 1964. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother she worked for much of her married life, most recently as Executive Director of the United Way of Kamloops from 1992 - 2004. Ingrid's love of life flowed to her family, friends and acquaintances. Everyone admired her signature laugh, her warm smile and her keen sense of humor. She was up for any experience or challenge that came her way including skiing, fishing, sewing, decorating, cooking, rving and especially golf, which became a passion. Ingrid was diagnosed with cancer in Ontario on a cross Canada tour in 2005 and was forced to return home to begin treatment. She was adamant that she would "live" for the rest of her life. That same year she and Bob purchased a park model in Yuma, Arizona and the following year finished their tour of Canada, which is described in her blog. Between chemo treatments she was full steam ahead with traveling, camping and her beloved golf. Unfortunately she ran out of treatment options in late May of this year. The family will be forever grateful for the professional care she received during her treatment. We wish to thank Dr. Taylor in Kelowna, Janice and the staff at the RIH Cancer Clinic, the many doctors, nurses and technicians at RIH and Dr. Cynthia Watson her primary physician who provided overall direction and care. We deeply appreciate the Kamloops Hospice House for their comfort, love, compassion, and serenity provided to Ingrid and her family during the final phase of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RIH Cancer Clinic through a memorial fund in Ingrid's name at the RIH Foundation at 311 Columbia St. Kamloops, BC, V2C 9Z9. A Private Celebration of Ingrid's Life will be announced shortly
