GLORIA JEANNE DUNCAN December 20, 1949 - July 20, 2009.Gloria Duncan (nee Visscher) was born on Dec. 20th, 1949 in St. Paul, AB, the first child of John and Eva Visscher. In 1957, Gloria moved with her family to the town of Dawson Creek, BC, where Gloria attended elementary and high School. There she began many activities, including lessons in music, dance and swimming, that would eventually shape the creative and intrepid woman that she became. In 1969, Gloria married Gary John Low in Dawson Creek. They moved to Whitehorse, YT shortly afterwards, where they had two children, Robert Warren and Wendy Dianne Low. Gloria's family moved several times, from Whitehorse to Fort Nelson, Mica Creek, and Revelstoke and eventually to Cache Creek, where Gloria amicably parted with Gary. She remarried shortly thereafter to Jim Alexander Duncan, and her small family immediately expanded with the addition of his already grown children, Josie Leigh, Glory Amanda and Jay Alexander. During her life, Gloria was involved in innumerable activities in every community that she lived. Some of her ambitions were professional but many were volunteer. A partial list includes School Trustee, Librarian, Superhost Trainer, Course Coordinator for the University College of the Cariboo, and President of the Ashcroft Fall Fair. She was involved in community groups such as D.A.R.E., the Rotary exchange student program, the 'Painted Ladies', Brownies, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Ya Ya Sisterhood. Gloria was a gifted teacher, and she instructed courses in swimming, aquafit, English as a second language, quilting, and stamping, but her favorite students were her grandchildren. She taught them to enjoy the creative side of their lives, involving them in painting, crafts, costumes and more. She believed that creativity involved escaping the fear of making mistakes. Gloria passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops on July 20, 2009, with her husband and family members at her side. She will be missed by friends and family, but her inspiration and enthusiasm will continue in the lives of those that have been touched by her indomitable spirit. Gloria is survived by; her mother Eva Visscher, her husband Jim Duncan, a sister Suzanne Harman (m. Steven Harman), a brother Murray Visscher (m. Corinne Visscher), her sons Robert Low, Jay Duncan (m. Crystal Roberts), her daughters Wendy Low, (m. Kevin Weibe), Josie Ferguson, Glori Duncan, her grandchildren Douglas Ferguson, Hannah Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, Sierra Duncan, Sequoya Weibe, and Solomon Weibe, a niece Joey Harman and a nephew Gavin Visscher.
