JEAN MCBETH (BETH) MCARTHUR Beth McArthur passed away peacefully at Pine Grove Care Centre on Monday, June 22, 2009, at the age of 91. She was born in Glen Ewen, Saskatchewan on December 2, 1917, the second child of James and Edith McCrindle. At an early age, Beth moved with her family to Vancouver. After graduating high school, she trained and worked as a dietary assistant at the Provincial Infirmary at Marpole until her marriage to Leigh McArthur in 1944. Shortly after, the couple moved to Kamloops. Beth loved music and was a long-time member of the Kamloops United Church Choir. Active in the Yale Cariboo Musical Festival organization, she served as its secretary for seven years. Beth and Leigh owned and operated L.H. McArthur Machine Shop at 210 Lansdowne Street from June 1947 until they moved the operation to their BarnhartVale farm in 1961. Following 22 years of farm life, Beth retired to Kamloops in 1984 where she resumed her musical pursuits, singing for many years with the Happy Choristers and a short time with the Mount Paul United Church choir. Beth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Leigh in August, 1982 and her only brother Jim McCrindle in January, 2001, Beth leaves two daughters, Louise De Marni (Brian Foley) and Alice De Marni, six grandchildren, Stephen (Akiko), Paul (Michelle), Jeanette, Caesar Leigh and Jeff (Teri) De Marni, and Sue (Ken) Ferguson, six great grandchildren, Maria Ferguson, and Michael, Tiah, Dylan, Colby and Jacey De Marni. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Bettie Andrews, her brother-in-law Doug MacArthur, many nieces and nephews, and a few close friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, with Reverend Bruce Comrie officiating. Private burial will take place in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery. The family wishes to express appreciation to all the special earth-angels who helped care for Beth during the final years of her life: Grandchildren Susan Ferguson and Caesar Leigh De Marni for their hard work and unwavering dedication to their grandmother's well-being; the staff at Pine Grove Care Centre, especially RCAs,Teresa and Elda; Gerda, Beth's favourite High Country Health care worker; Dr. Tom Eccleston, and the nurses and staff at RIH ER and 3 West for their kind care during Beth's recent stay.
