Passed in: British Columbia, Canada

McMILLAN 1928 ~ 2009 Elin Lennea McMillan passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2009 at the age of 81. Her love and encouragement will forever be remembered by those whose lives she so enriched: her children Michael (Helen), Merle (Kelly), Kevin (Diana), and Casey (Morag); her daughter-in-law Nancy; her grandchildren Andrea, Sarra, Brianne, Jonathan, Regan, Ashley, and Ryan; her sisters Vana Boyd and Greta Lupick; and her sister-in-law Elsa. She was predeceased by her husband John, her brother Charlie, her sister-in-law Inez and her son D'Arcy. Elin was born in Stewart, BC on June 9, 1928. In Stewart, she completed high school by correspondence, the town's only graduate in her year. She graduated from Provincial Normal School in 1947 and earned an Elementary School Permanent Certificate First Class in October, 1951. In Massett, Stewart, Vanderhoof, Lake Cowichan, and Prince George, she frequently taught in one-room schoolhouses with children of several different grades. She loved her job and excelled at it, becoming a Teacher Consultant in Vanderhoof and Prince George. When she met John McMillan in Prince George, she soon fell for his Irish charm. They married in 1958 and later moved to Fort St. John, and then to Kamloops. After the birth of Michael and then Merle, Elin left teaching to devote her life to educating, encouraging and advocating for her children. This was a loss for the school system but a priceless gift to her family. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She loved volunteering at the Overlander Hospital, going to the symphony and walking daily with her good friend Anne Uren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at 6th and Douglas. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home.
