DAVID HEBERT DOERKSEN June 24, 1917 - April 26, 2009 On Sunday, April 26, 2009, David passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ. David will be remembered and missed by his family: Bob (Sharon Heslop), Jim (Edna), Doris (Dave Bond), Pat (Al Robbins), Valerie (Peter Epp) and Carol (Brent Lyons), and their mother Anne Doerksen. David also leaves ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. David was born on the family farm in Manitoba, the sixth child of twelve children born to Johann and Helena Doerksen. He grew up on the family homestead and ran his own farm for a time. David served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from April 1943 to September 1945 as a Leading Aircraftman. During most of that time, he was stationed at Southport, England, doing mechanic work on fighter planes such as the Spitfire. After returning home from overseas, he spent some time working on the Distant Early Warning lines in the Arctic. He enjoyed working with machinery, working most of his life as a heavy duty mechanic, starting in the Transcona, Manitoba area. David moved his family to BC in 1964, where he worked for Finning Tractor in Prince George. He also worked for Prince George Pulp & Paper, retiring on July 1, 1982. He then worked for Kraus Logging in the Williston Lake area for a few years. David lived in Kamloops since 1987, and was affectionately known as "Grandpa Dave" to many, children and adults alike. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Ridgeview Lodge and the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home for their care compassion during David's last days. A celebration of David's life will be held at Kamloops Full Gospel, 1550 Tranquille Road, Kamloops on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Al Robbins in care of arrangements 250-434-6285
