ALLEN ROLLAND O'BRIEN On Saturday, May 30, 2009 Allen Rolland O'Brien passed away peacefully at the age of 80. He will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Norma, his sons Rik, Alan and Kerry, his daughters-in-law MaryAnne, Cecile and Susan, his grandchildren Sherry, Alanna, Marie and Allen, his sisters-in-law Evelyn and Vicki and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was sadly predeceased by his daughter Sherry Lynn O'Brien. Allen served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Stoker on the HMCS Sioux during the Korean War and continued to be a proud member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association. Upon his return from the Navy he married his sweetheart Norma, his wife of 57 years. Allen worked in the private and government sectors as a mechanic and supervisor until his retirement. Allen was a true family man, always putting his family first. He will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humour through all adversity. Allen had wonderful story-telling abilities and would entertain his many eager listeners with tales from his colourful adventures. Also known as "Mr Fix-It", Allen rarely replaced anything that he could repair himself. He was an avid collector of just about anything - rocks, gems, coins, electrical plugs... we will miss him. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of Allen's caregivers for their help and support over the past 13 years. A graveside service for Allen will be held on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at The Hillside Cemetery (750 Notre Dame Drive), followed by an open house at 1:00 p.m. at The Hamlets at Westsyde Retirement Residence. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. We will always remember Allen as a loving husband, a good father and a great friend. He will be deeply missed
