It is with great sadness that the family of 84-year-old Dan Joe McCormick announce his passing on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, in Toronto at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Born at French Road, Cape Breton, Dan Joe was the only son of the late Allan and Rachel McCormick and brother to four older sisters, the late Margaret Williams (2009), Sydney River, Catherine MacDougall, Sydney River, Mary Jane MacMullin, Sydney, and Sally Johnson, Richmond Hill, Ont.
Predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Bell (1989), he leaves behind his two daughters, Linda and Patty; his son-in-law, Iain McLaren; grandchildren, Alan, Sherry, April, Joey, Scott; 29 nieces and nephews; and he will be greatly missed by his dear companion of the past 17 years, Eva Pilson.
While in Toronto, Dan Joe always held down at least two jobs. He retired from Acme Dairy after 41 years of service, was a well respected apartment superintendent till he was 70 and a devoted 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus at the time of his passing.
Funeral services were held at St. Charles Borremeo Church, Toronto, Ont. (Dec. 30, 2009) with burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, Ont.
Dan Joe loved music, singing, dancing, jokes, friends, the Isle of Cape Breton, family get-togethers. He will be greatly missed. May, his soul rest in peace.
