Jim was born March 23, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Jim and Florence Davies. He moved to Kamloops with his parents and siblings in 1930. After completing school he had a variety of occupations, some of which were; sawmill worker, cannery worker, rancher, prospector and box maker. He took pride in making fruit and vegetable boxes and told stories of that job to his grandchildren many, many times. Jim and Peggy were married in November 1939. He started his long career with CN Rail in 1946 as a Car Inspector. He would walk alongside the trains from end to end both sides checking for brake problems. Before he had a vehicle he would walk from our house on Tranquille Road over the train bridge to the CN Junction for his midnight shift. He retired from CN Rail in 1980 at age 65 after a 34 year career which he was very proud of. After his retirement Dad and Mom traveled in their truck and camper to every waterfall and mountain in all parts of BC, they especially enjoyed Vancouver Island. After Mom's passing he volunteered with the Food Bank. In recent years Jim could be found at North Hills Food Court with his buddies talking politics and any other topic of the day. He even had his 90th birthday party at the food court surrounded by his many friends. Thanks to the guys who convinced Dad to give up driving, the streets of the North Shore became a little safer! A special thanks to Dr. Eccleston for his outstanding care and compassion for Dad. Thank you to all the nurses and care aides who cared for Dad over the past four years at Ponderosa Lodge and Kamloops Seniors Village. We couldn't give enough thanks to the angels at Seniors Village who gave us so much love and support for the last few days of Dad's life. Thanks to all of you who visited Dad while he was in extended care. The Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in the Kamloops Funeral Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive.
