Rick Hatcher

Born In: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 20th, 2012

It is with tremendous sadness from the deepest of our tear filled hearts that we announce Rick’s death on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.
Rick was a hard worker and a man of his hands; the majority of the houses North of Smokey know his carpentry skills. He had recently taken his work out west to Fort MacMurray and Saskatoon in order to provide for his family. However, he was more of a man of his heart and will be best remembered as an extremely caring individual who would drop whatever he was doing to help anybody in need. He supported his community as a Beaver leader and a volunteer firefighter at the Neil’s Harbour fire department.
Rick was a true friend and he was genuine with everyone that he met. Rick was a lover of jokes and pranks and rarely left a room without leaving a smile on someone’s face. He had an ear for music and could carry a tune on a guitar, or any instrument, just as well as the rest. Rick lost many lines and lures hauling in his fair share of trout and he could often be seen driving down the road with his good buddy Tameka (dog).
He was a warm son, a caring uncle and a loving brother and twin. He was an affectionate husband and father, and a true gem of a Poppy. The happiness in Rick’s soul was on full display when he was with his young grandchildren.
Rick was predeceased by his father, Stanley Hatcher and most recently his cousin and best friend Darryl MacKinnon.
Surviving are his wife, Claire (Fitzgerald); sons, Nathan Hatcher (Catherine), Ingonish, Grant Hatcher, Halifax; daughters, Alison Hatcher (Frankie), Westmount, Shaunna Genneaux (Vince), Fort McMurray. His loving mother, Joan (Burrage) Hatcher, Neil’s Harbour; twin brother, Bruce Hatcher (Karen), Neil’s Harbour; sister, Ann Hussey (Arnold), Clarenville, N.L. His charming and talented nieces and nephews, Scott, Carlene, Timothy; Joanne, Laura and Nicholas; aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends, especially Donnie Jessome, and coworkers in Saskatchewan, and his old buddy Gordie Budge. Poppy’s beautiful grandchildren who he loved “more than anything in the world”, Carson, Jacob, Jesse, Chael; Xzander; Silas and Isobella.
Heartfelt thanks to Claire’s coworkers at Buchanan Memorial, the very special nurses and doctors. Paramedics, especially Lyall and Greg. To our family and friends, thank you so much.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at Neil’s Harbour and New Haven Fire Department. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Neil’s Harbour, Rev. Brenda Drake will officiate. Interment in parish cemetery.

“When my days on earth are numbered and it’s time for me to go,
I pray to God to grant me one last plea.
To lay me in that peaceful spot where my kin has gone before,
In God’s haven in Neil’s Harbour by the sea”
(My Village by the Sea, by Stanley Hatcher).
