Peacefully at the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, of Joseph Roy McKinnon, beloved husband of the Rev. Lynn McKinnon of Alberton (Alberton and Elmsdale Pastoral Charge), age 60 years.Born at North Sydney, Cape Breton, on May 7, 1952, he was the son of the late Roy Wilfred and Mary Johanna (nee Penny) McKinnon. Cherished father to Robbie (Kaycee) of Whitney Pier, N.S. Mark and Shannon of Alberton. Loving grandfather to Aidan. Dear brother to Marguerite (Jimmy) Aikens of Leitches Creek, N.S.; Jean (Dave) Standing of North Sydney; Frances (late Steve) MacFadden of North Sydney. He is also survived by his father-in-law, James Walsh, of North Sydney, and by brother- and sister-in-laws: Karen (Jack) Robinson of North Sydney; Neil (Judy) Walsh of North Sydney; Robert (Rose) Walsh of Victoria B.C.; and Jerry Walsh of Victoria B.C. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his mother-in-law, Jean Walsh. He was an avid fisherman and was a valued employee for 28 years at the New Waterford Credit Union. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m., then forwarded to Dooleys Funeral Home, North Sydney, for visiting hours on Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Wednesday from St. Matthew-Wesley United Church, North Sydney, at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Luker officiating. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. As an expression of sympathy, memorials to the United Church Mission and Service Fund would be gratefully appreciated.
