Robert Jack
EAST RIVER ST. MARY’S, Pictou Co. – It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bobby” Jack, 70, announces his passing on Saturday, August 25th, 2012.
A beloved son, brother, husband and father, Robert died at home in East River St. Mary’s, Pictou County, shortly after his cancer diagnosis.
He was born on his mother’s birthday, Christmas Day, 1941 on Cochrane Hill in Guysborough County. He was the seventh of nine children to the late Wallace Daniel and Cora Edna “Dolly” (Hudson) Jack.
He was predeceased by his sisters Phyllis (and the late Ernie) Taylor of Attleboro, Massachusetts and Vivian of East River St. Mary’s and New Glasgow, and by brother Milford “Buster” Jack of East River St. Mary’s and Riverton, and by special brother-in-law and friend, Dale Urquhart, Westville, Nova Scotia.
His passing is mourned by his surviving siblings: Bryce Jack of East River St. Mary’s; Maxine (the late Don) Archibald, Musquodoboit and Hilden, Nova Scotia; Peggy (Robert) Fraser, East River St. Mary’s, Nova Scotia; Muriel (John) McManaman, Bailieboro, Ontario; Evelyn Jack, Westville, Nova Scotia.
He was the most precious husband of Angie, and the best of fathers to their only child, Meghann (St. John’s, NL). He loved his many nieces and nephews dearly, and was always seen as a particularly special uncle.
Robert was a woodsman his whole life in both occupation and in recreation. In his early years, he worked horses in the woods, and always enjoyed having a heavy horse on the place. He loved to be in the woods and the outdoors, fishing, hunting, cutting wood and taking Molly and Ripley, his special horses, for sleigh rides. He loved going for drives around the countryside and an afternoon picnic, a trip around the Cabot Trail, and listening to good bluegrass and Scotch music. He loved home best of all.
A memorial service celebrating his life will take place 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany United Church, East River St. Mary’s, Pictou County, with Derek Elsworth presiding. Burial to follow in the Valley View Cemetery – looking out to his home on the hill, in East River St. Mary’s. A reception for all friends and family will follow in the East River St. Mary’s Fire Hall.
Family flowers only. Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the VON, Pictou County, the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, the Terry Fox Foundation or to the East River St. Mary’s Fire Hall.
