SCHAFER - Jeanette, late of Regina, SK, and formerly of Mankota, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the age of 83 years. Jeanette was born in the Rosefield District in southwest Saskatchewan and spent her early years on the farm. The family relocated to the farm at Mclean, SK, in the 1930's. Jeanette eventually met and married Steve Matt, and established a farm west of Balgonie and started their family there. They later sold the farm and relocated to Regina, where they operated an Esso Service Station on Arcola Ave East until 1957. After Steve passed on, she married William (Bill) Schafer and they established their home in Mankota where they farmed until Bill retired. Jeanette and Bill were always on the go, travelling extensively, and spending summers at the cabin at Etter's Beach. They enjoyed visiting with and hosting their many friends and relatives. Jeanette was always very involved in local activities in the community; she always maintained a strong relationship to her faith and church. She will be kindly remembered and missed by those whose lives she touched. Jeanette was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Melunia (Glas) Laturnus; brother George; first husband Stephen Matt; second husband William Schafer; brothers-in-law Ed Wickenheiser and John Keck.
