1929-2010
Jean R. Allen, age 80, of Sackville, passed away peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital while surrounded by her family on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Earle and Annabella (Watt) Atkinson.
Jean was a graduate of Royal Victoria School of Nursing Hospital in Montreal in 1951, studied to be a midwife in Britain, and received her diploma in Public Health from Dalhousie University before working with the VON in Dartmouth and then Sackville. She was involved with the Girl Guides of Canada and a founding member of the Craft Gallery co-op.
She will be sadly missed by her sons Ian, Robert and Liam (Andrea), all of Sackville, N.B.; granddaughter Lauren; brother Frank (Florence) Atkinson, Truro; sister Helen (Donald) Porter, Fort Belcher, N.S.; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (506-364-1300) where visiting hours were held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010.
The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at 2 p.m., Rev. John Perkin officiating.
Cremation took place following the funeral and the ashes will be interred in the Sackville Cemetery in the spring.
Donations may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital or the local branch of the VON.
