Paul Emile Ashby
March 30, 1929 – January 12, 2010
It is with deep sadness and sorrow we say farewell to our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Paul passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years young. Paul Emile Ashby was born in Hoey, SK on March 30, 1929. Throughout his life he was involved in many charities and various organizations, most notably The Lions Club and Prince Albert Minor Softball. He donated not only financially but tirelessly to the C.N.I.B., Lions Eye Bank, cornea transplants, and the development of many ball players in the Prince Albert area. In 2007, Paul was honoured as a lifetime member of the Prince Albert Lions Club, and to date his biggest achievements were an induction into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service, and into The Saskatchewan Softball Hall Of Fame. In his spare time, when he had it, Paul would venture out to watch all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their various sports activities, which he enjoyed immensely. Paul is survived by his loving family: his daughter Sharon (Guy) Wood, their children Tristen (Krissy, Ethan and Kasey) and Jay (Heidi); his son Lorne (Sharon) Ashby, their children Aubrey (Taylor), Robyn Keays (Robert, Jaci, Janessa and Declyn), Lindsey (Gordon Olson and children) and Derek Nelson; and youngest son Kurt (Debbie) Ashby and their children Marc (Trina and Caprice) and Jordan; his sister Grace (Walter) Kowal and their children and his youngest brother Jack (Billy) and their children. Paul was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Rose; their children Emile (13) and Audrey (9); his parents George and Irene Ashby; his brother Leo; his sister-in-law Corliss Ashby; his father-in-law and mother-in-law William Arthur and Florence Lee (nee Cook) Hodgson. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 4:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Maurice Fiolleau. Interment will take place on June 20, 2010 in the Garden of Gethsemane at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that those who wish to place memorial donations can do so to the C.N.I.B., PO Box 32002 Stn BRM B, Toronto, ON M7Y 5R2. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
