SCOTSBURN – George Aldo Matheson, 89, of Scotsburn, passed away surrounded by his family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on January 12, 2010.
Aldo was born in Scotsburn on May 11, 1920, and was a son of the late John Thomas and Mabel May (Robley) Matheson.
He spent the majority of his life on the family homestead in Scotsburn. Aldo trained for the Canadian Army during WWII and was officially recognized for his marksmanship. He also worked at the Pictou Shipyards during the war where he met his future wife, Ruth. Aldo worked for the Scotsburn Co-Op for 40 years and was well-known and respected by farmers throughout Pictou County. He will always be remembered for his passion for working the land, for working in his woodlot, and his love for horses. To his family and his community, Aldo was a man of integrity and unquestionable honesty.
Aldo was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Ruth, on October 30, 2009.
He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Andre Audette), Victoria, BC; Cynthia Roy (Randy, deceased), Bedford, NS; son, Tom (Debra), Scotsburn; five grandchildren, David Roy, Marc Audette, Brett, Isaac and Cole Matheson. He is also survived by his two older brothers, Kenneth (Lillian) of Scotsburn, and Roderick (Eileen) of Scotch Hill.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, 246 Faulkland St., Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Saturday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with the Rev. Barb Fotheringham officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery. A reception in the church basement will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Bethel Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
