It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of Terry Gerald Evans, age 50, on Thursday, January 14, 2010. An incredible husband, father, son, brother, coach, teacher and friend.
Born in Sydney, Terry was the son the of late Gerald and Dorcas Evans. He was a dedicated member of the Canadian Coast Guard for 27 years, serving as a deck hand, cadet instructor and Rescue Specialist. Terry will forever be remembered as a man who took the greatest pleasure from even life’s simplest moments. From Saturday morning breakfasts with his girls and BBQ’s with the in-laws, to Sundays watching the Patriots with Gerry, and coaching his daughters basketball and soccer teams; Terry proudly considered himself rich beyond measure as a family man.
Terry is survived by his soul-mate, Gerry (Toomey) and daughters, MacKenzie and Cameryn; his mother, Sandra MacDonald and step-father, Vince MacDonald, Massachusetts; his siblings, Vinnie MacDonald, Kim MacDonald, Wendy MacDonald-Bickford, Wayne MacDonald, Keith MacDonald and Judy MacDonald-Sayward, all of Massachusetts; his sisters, Lorraine Connelly and Bessy MacLeod of North Sydney. Terry will also be sadly missed by Gerald and Helen Toomey, Tanya (Bill) Long, and Niki (Matt) Toomey-MacDougall; his in-laws who thought of him as nothing less than their own son and brother.
Visitation for Terry will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev Jim Attwood officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
