The death of Faye C. Medjuck of Fredericton, N.B., occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on January 1, 2010.
She was the widow of the late Ben Medjuck and the daughter of the late Joseph Allen and Esther Claener of New Waterford, N.S.
Faye was born in Russia but immigrated to Canada at a young age. She lived in New Waterford until she moved with Ben to Fredericton, in 1936.
Survived by two daughters, Gertrude (Martin Cohos) of Calgary, Alta. and Marilyn (Lou Kulcsar) of Oakville, Ont.; one son, Joe (Laurie Deans) of Santa Barbara, CA; five grandchildren, Peter Cohos (Kim), Elizabeth (Lorne Carson), Tamara (Mat Bouma), all of Calgary, Emman and Avery Medjuck of Santa Barbara, CA; six great - grandchildren; she is also survived by her brother, Dr. Mosie Claener of Sydney, N.S. and several nieces and nephews.
Faye was predeceased by her parents; husband, as well as one brother, Sam Claener of New Waterford and two sisters, Rose Schwartz of New Waterford and Rae Jacobson of Sydney.
She was very active in many Fredericton community organizations including the Synagogue sisterhood, Hadassah Wizo and State of Israel Bonds, the IODE the Fredericton Music Festival and the VON. She was a founding member of the Capital Y’s Menettes and was very proud of her role in the early days at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
The funeral service was held at the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel 160 York St., Fredericton on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at 1 p.m. Rabbi Yusef Goldman officiating. Interment in the Sgoolai Israel Cemetery.
No flowers by request. For those who wish, memorial tributes to the Medjuck Scholarship Fund C/O The Fredericton Foundation Inc., 390 King St., Suite 201, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 1E3 or the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank Faye’s many Fredericton friends who made it possible for her to live independently until her death.
