TRENTON – Joseph Alexander “Joby” Avery, age 64, of 14th Street, Trenton, passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital on Saturday January 16th, 2010, surrounded by his family.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William and Anne (Cox) Avery.
Joby is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Anne (Swinamer) Avery, daughter, Sharon Avery (Cecil Hillier), sons, Joseph (Juanita) Avery, Kevin (Chrisgina) Avery, stepson, Darryl (Ginny) MacArthur and grandchildren: Josh, Steven, Ricky, Evan, and Marlee Hillier; Karleigh, Sienna, Christopher and Luke Avery; Amanda MacArthur and Wynter (Corey) Connors.
He is also survived by sisters, Helen (Kenny) Guthro and Hazel (John) Hughes and brother, John (Judy) Avery.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Swinamer.
Joby was predeceased by sisters, Isabel and Mary (Dolly), and a brother, Cecil.
Joby was a former employee with TrentonWorks Ltd.
In his younger years he loved to play baseball. He and Anne enjoyed dancing and their walks in the park in their wonderful 25 years of marriage.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with Father Donald Boudreau and Rev. Debra Orton officiating.
A reception will follow the funeral in the funeral home.

Donations in memory of Joby may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
