We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Derrick Thomas ‘Tat’ Tatlock on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Waterford on May 27, 1932, Derrick was the son of the late Jonathan and Gertrude Adelaide (Daws) Tatlock.
He enjoyed playing sports, particularly hockey, in his younger years, volunteered his time at Loaves and Fishes (Holy Redeemer) and at the South Bar Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed his summers gardening at home and camping in Ingonish.
He worked in the coal mines for Devco until he retired in 1985.
Derrick was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Eileen ‘Tootie’ Murphy in 2006 and by his son, Gary in 2007, by two brothers, Stanley and Donald and three sisters, Dorothy, Betty and Brenda.
He is survived by his son, Buddy (Bev), Ottawa; daughter, Karen, Sydney; daughter-in-law, Donna, South Bar and grandchildren, Caitlin, Ben, Kelly, Michael and Shannon. Also surviving are sister, Joy Kanne and brothers, Norman and John.
Visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Redeemer Parish Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
