It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Adrian Thomas Tobin, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital. Adrian passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Sarah (Robertson) Tobin.
After serving in the Canadian Air Force, he returned to North Sydney, where he was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic retiring in 1991. Adrian was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Brank #19 in North Sydney. In his earlier years he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed playing darts, Saturday morning yard sales and camping at Lake-o-law. His favourite pastime was bowling in the North Sydney and Sydney leagues with his legion buddies. Most of all Adrian enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ann (Bradley) Tobin; and his three daughters, Jacqueline (Clinton) Robinson, Wanda (Paul) Styles, both of North Sydney, and Nancy (David) Barry, Bras d’Or; his five grandchildren, Jason (Tracey) Tobin, Stacey Tobin, Justin and Amanda Styles and Alicia Barry, and one great-grandchild, Katelynn Sarah. Also surviving are his brothers, Lawrence (Tillie), New Brunswick, Peter Garfield (Bernice), Ronald, both of Ontario; sisters, Catherine, Halifax, Yvonne (Phil), Marilyn (Terry), Shirley, all of Ontario, and Lorraine, Cole Harbour; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Elmer and a sister, Genevieve.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Adrian will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Cremation to follow, with burial at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre.
