1917 - 2010

Raymond Gareth Atkinson of Kamloops, BC, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 92 years of age.

He is survived by daughter Ellen Hockley (Steve Laughlin), granddaughter Karen Hockley (Jeff Tupholme); great grandson Kenneth Hockley; and six loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Betty Boyd, Margaret Horne and Miriam Watton and by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara "Barrie" Atkinson.

Ray was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 29, 1917. He started his adult life in Calgary, working for the YMCA and spent many years helping youth in need. Later, he moved into Mental Health Services. When Ray retired to Kamloops he became an active volunteer in Senior Advocate Services. He and Barb enjoyed many years travelling and singing with the Happy Choristers. They both loved camping with his sister Margaret Horne and spending time with the family at the ranch in Pritchard. Ray and Barrie were both active members in the Mount Paul United Church.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the nurses of 6 North at Royal Inland.

The Memorial Service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the Mount Paul United Church, 140 Laburnum St., with Reverend LeAnn Blackert officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Ray's name to the charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
