Ivey Horton - 91, of New Minas, formerly of Port Williams, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Annie Mae (Billard) Standing. Ivey was raised by her Godparents, Charles and Florence Spencer. She was a well-known seamstress and quilt maker and had been employed in Port Williams creating casket interiors for W. C. Hiltz. She had also been employed with the Louis Fishel Glove Company in Kentville. Ivey was a member of the U.C.W. Port Williams Group, a member of the Port Williams Lioness Club, a member of the Port Williams Loyal Workers, and an assistant Cub Master in Port Williams for several years. She is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Allan) Ryan, London, Ontario; Eileen (James) Haynes, North Alton; Carol (George) Cameron, Newmarket, Ontario; one son, Wayne (Virginia), Kentville; two sisters, Nina Jessome, North Sydney; Jesse Williams, Halifax; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lester; two sisters, Alma Seury and Alfreda Clarke; two step-sisters, Cora Thomton and Ada Sutton; a step-brother, Joseph Spencer; a granddaughter, Kimberly. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Orchard Valley United Church (formerly the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville), Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Port George. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Grand View Manor. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Winslow Unit in Grand View Manor for their kindness, care and compassion.
