
Elie "Red" Rioux
RIOUX, ELIE CLIFFORD “RED” - It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Elie C. “Red” Rioux, 85, formerly of Grand Falls, NB, on Friday, September 21st, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Grand Falls, NB on March 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Mathieu and Annie (Côté) Rioux and husband of Regina (Godbout) Rioux. Red loved many things in life. He was a fantastic photographer, an avid golfer and he took great pleasure in researching and doing genealogy. His work with NB Power and the Canadian International Development Agency was important to him and it also allowed him to fuel his passion for travel. Red was a WWII Veteran and he liked to spend time with his fellow comrades. But most of all, Red loved his family and helping others. His volunteer work with the hospital as well as his work at the legion in Grand Falls as a Service Officer, was his way of helping those around him. Red will be missed by his loving wife, Regina; his children, Paul (Jackie) of Chilliwack, BC, Claude (Hazel) of Dartmouth, NS, Marcel (Ann Marie) of Fredericton, NB, Michelle Desjardins (Gilles) of Grand Falls, NB, Monique Smith (Bill) of Mactaquac, NB and Jean (Desmond) of Fredericton, NB; 10 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three siblings as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and six of his siblings.
There will be no visitation by request. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Friday, September 28th, 2012 at 12 noon with Rev. Bill Brennan officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Grand Falls, NB. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Red’s honor may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
