Allister ‘Squix’ Matheson, 80, of Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Sept. 22, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late A.D. and Katherine (Morrison) Matheson.
Allister was employed at Devco Machine shop for 40 years. He was a member of Warden United Church where he served as an elder. Al was a fundraiser for many charitable organizations and sports associations. He was a longtime Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Blue Jays fan, and he enjoyed going to the casino and Screaming Eagles games and seeing his many friends there. He loved visiting people and going to shows at the Savoy Theatre.
He is survived by his loving devoted wife, Phyllis (Nee Butts) of 52 years; sons, Benjie (Ronda), Glace Bay, and Allister (Lisa), Sydney; brother Fraser, Hemmingford, Que.; sister-in-law, Adeline Matheson Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Barry Butts, Ontario, John Butts, Glace Bay. He is also survived by his three grandchildren whom he adored, Eric, Curtis and Liam; nieces, Kathryn, Glenda, Elaine, Susan, Rebecca, Sarah and nephews, Duncan, Fulton, Lorne, Bobby, DeeDee, Sandy and Ben.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Peggy Sharpe, Florence McNeil, brothers, Angus, Quentin and Stewart.
Memorial service will be held at Warden United Church with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. with reception to follow in the church hall. At Allister’s request there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Warden United Church or charity of one’s choice.
