It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Francis Nolan. Joe passed away suddenly at home on Sept. 29, 2012.
Born Dec. 24, 1936, in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Sarah (Moore) Nolan.
Joe had worked many years in the grocery business as the manager of the Modern CO-OP in Glace Bay until his retirement in 1994 Joe was extremely proud of his family especially, his treasured grandchildren. Joe proudly spoke of their accomplishments and goals. He will be greatly missed by his many friends made over the years while pursuing his passion for the restoration of antique cars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Emma (MacLean); daughter, Neldie (Joseph), Glace Bay; sons, Gary (Eleanor), Howie Center, Bradley (Heather), Truro. Poppie Joe will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Greg, Glace Bay, Jason (Laura), Halifax, Dougal, Ontario, Sara and Michael, Halifax; sisters, Ernestine (George) Penny, Halifax, Charlena, Ottawa; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Christine, Etta, Anne, Carmella; brothers, Billy, John, Angus, Leo, Blaire, Terrance.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial at a later date. A reception will be held at St. Leo Hall immediately following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Joe’s memory to a charity of your choice.
