Wendall Wilmot Miller, 71, Windsor, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with his family by his side. Born on September 10, 1941, in Upper Kennetcook, Hants Co., he was the son of the late Wilbert and Susan (MacAskill) Miller. Wendall will be well remembered as an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp and woodlot in Upper Kennetcook. A loyal sports fan, he would often be found in the corner of many sports facilities enjoying his children’s and grandchildren’s ventures. His baseball career started at an early age in Hants County where he honed his skills as a pitcher and first baseman. He was well known for power at the plate, eventually earning the nickname “Homerun Miller”. He continued playing competitive ball until well into his 40’s, when his friends convinced him to give it up for the game of golf. He competed in many local tournaments and was a member of the Valley Seniors, which he enjoyed immensely. He especially enjoyed his Thursday golfing pals, Garnet, Luke and Ken. Wendall stayed busy in his retirement, after 37 years with Trans Canada Credit, writing poetry, completing woodworking projects and producing maple syrup at his sugar shack in Upper Kennetcook. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeannine Aubé; his children, Shelley (Hugh Fergusson), Oakfield; Greg (Susan), Lethbridge, Alta.; Dwayne (Jacquelyn), Falmouth; grandchildren, Nicole, Lauren, Andrew, Brad, Jon, Stephanie, Jessa, Jorelle (Joey Young), and Nolan; and a great granddaughter, Harlo Bella; brothers, Reg and Wayne (Lee); sisters, Elsie and Norma (Rollie); several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Robie, Reuben and Raymond; sisters, Beatrice, Marilyn and Marge. There was no visitation by request. A memorial service was 2 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Father Michael J. Walsh officiated, followed by interment at St. John’s Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, Wiley Ave., Windsor.
