Margaret E. Ling

LING, MARGARET E. – 93, of Parrsboro passed away suddenly on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Melville, PEI, she was a daughter of the late Hector D. and Laura B. (MacWilliams) Gillis. Margaret was very involved in community service and was an active member of Trinity United Church since she moved to Parrsboro in 1968. Her involvement with volunteer organizations included serving as President of the Parrsboro Lioness Club and 25 years as President of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, President of Unit II UCW Group and past member of the Board of Directors of the Cumberland Arthritis Society. Margaret was also an active member of the Parrsborough Shore Historical Society and worked diligently to help preserve the Historic Ottawa House. She was also an active member of South Cumberland Conservative Party. She received numerous awards for her service including the Governor General’s Award, Provincial Volunteer of the Year Award and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award, among many others. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Elmer; daughters, Nancy Nymark (Gary), Parrsboro; Norma Alberg (Michael), Winnipeg; daughter-in-law, Pam (Moreside) Ling, Charlottetown, PEI; sister-in-law, Alice (Ross) Gillis, Maine; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Dr. Barry Ling in 2008; a sister, Flora Morrison; a brother, Preston. Visitation will be held 2-4, 6- 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday [October 18, 2012] at Trinity United Church, Parrsboro, Keith Selwyn-Smith, DLM officiating. Burial in the Parrsboro United Cemetery.
