It is with sadness that we announce the sudden death of our husband, father and grandfather, Clifford William Crompton, on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 in Quebec. Dad was on his way home to Cape Breton after a wonderful visit with his grandchildren as well as friends and colleagues from Agriculture Canada.
Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Peters) Crompton. He received a Msc. in Botany from McGill University in Montreal. Clifford worked for Agriculture Canada in Ottawa for a number of years and later operated an Environmental Assessment Business. He was church organist at St. John United Church in Big Bras d’Or, Drummond Memorial United Church, Ross Ferry and South Haven United Church. Clifford was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Baddeck, and while visiting in Ottawa he received his 50 year service award from Doric Lodge Masonic Temple. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Alina Crompton; daughters, Karen (Bob) Rainboth and Valerie (John) MacKinnon; stepdaughter, Lara Russell and grandchildren, Owen, Emma, Madison and Paige.
A visitation for Clifford will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Masonic service will be held this evening at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Drummond Memorial United Church, Ross Ferry with Rev Louis Ihasz officiating.
