
Iona Smith
SMITH, IONA VINA - Iona Smith of Saint John, widow of Frederick O. Smith, passed away October 31, 2012 in Kingston, NB. She was born in Saint John, daughter of the late Percy Friars and Melvina (Dobson) Friars. Iona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved “her” river and spending summers with her family and friends on the Kingston Peninsula at “Freddy Buck Lodge”. She was a great cook especially her cabbage rolls. Special thanks to her “girls”, Jean, Sharon, Bonnie and Karen who took such good care of mom. She is survived by her three children, Susan Waddell (Mike), Fred Smith Jr. (Lorrie Beechum), and Cathy Smith (Calvin Gilliland) all of the Kingston Peninsula; one sister, Georgie Stein (Cecil) of Saint John; sister-in-law, Joy Peacock of East Riverside, brother-in-law, Maxwell Smith (Della) of ON; six grandchildren, Joshua, Bobbie Lee, Tara, Smitty, Leann and Anthony; one great grandson, Bradley; several nieces, nephews and her special cousin, Jean Gallant.
Resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Thursday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held, 11:00am, Friday, November 2, 2012 at Reid’s Funeral Home. Interment in Trinity Cemetery, Kingston. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
