John Kerstens

KERSTENS, JOHN - Mr. John Strathmore Kerstens of Main Street, Doaktown, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 at his late residence at the age of 93. Born in Strathmore, Alberta, he was the son of the late Andreas (Andrew) and Lillian (Kearns) Kerstens. He was a self-employed mechanic and member of Our Lady of Announciation Roman Catholic Church. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch, #23. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Hruby (Peter) of Calgary, AB; his son, Don (Judy) of Fredericton; his sisters Edith and Violet; his brother, Donald; his grandchildren Kevin (Karen), John (Lori), Joel (Wila), Michael and Suzanne (Jason) and his great-grandchildren Harper, Paisley, Malik and Morgan. He is also survived by his step children Brenda Munn (Eugene), Bertie Watson (Gus Hatcher), Weaver Watson (Maxine), Vemrose Watson (Linda), Bonnie Christie (Irvin), Leila Webster, Carey McKay (Joey), Gordon Dale Watson (Susan), John Watson (Cheryl); his 17 step grandchildren and 22 step great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his special caregivers Lorraine Storey, Allanda Veno and Lorna Gillespie. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Martha Fitzsimmons, his second wife Mary (Beek) Watson, his sons Ken and Gerald, his daughter-in-law Rose Marie, his brother George and his sisters Margaret and Bertha.
Mr. John Strathmore Kerstens is resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 579 Main Street, Doaktown, with visitation on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. A Legion Service will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 22 at 11am at Our Lady of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph Okoko officiating. Burial will follow in Blissfield Roman Catholic Cemetery. In John’s memory, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23 or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
