Ethel Purvis
Ethel Purvis, 106 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Stellarton, passed away November 30, 2012 in the Villa.
Born in England, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mary Ann (Whitehouse) Wood.
Ethel was a resident of the Valley View Villa for the past three years having previously lived on Foster Avenue in Stellarton. She was a member of the Christ Anglican Church in Stellarton. Ethel was a past employee of the former Sunshine Laundry in New Glasgow, the Pictou Shipyard and the former Norfolk Hotel in New Glasgow.
She is survived by a granddaughter Carol (Warren) England, St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough County; great-grandsons: Maurice England (Sharlene), Jonathan England (Lindsey), Howard Carr (Donna), Christopher Carr (Erin), six great-great-grandchildren: Colby, Kylie, Dylan, Liam, Sonny and Piper, nieces: Audrey, Betty, Carolyn, Patsy and Gloria, several other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert Purvis, a daughter Ethel Carr, a son-in-law Maurice Carr, grandson Bobby Carr, sisters: Florence Morrison, Isabel Duff, Emily Osborne; brothers, John Wood and James Wood.
Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton with Rev. Peter Armstrong presiding assisted by Rev. Aidan Kingsbury. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
