John Finlayson, age 67 of Scotchtown, passed away on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, John was the son of the late James and Mary (Ashford) Finlayson.
John lived in Ontario for many years where he was employed on the assembly line at the Ford Motor Company. When he returned to Cape Breton he started his own business, known as Bun King Bakery with locations in New Waterford and Sydney. John was a gifted country musician; he loved to sing and play guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen (LeBlanc) Finlayson; son, Stephen; daughter, Donna (Norm) Hodder, Oakville, Ontario; five grandchildren, Lacey, Holly, Jason, Michael, John; special great grandchild, Vance and two brothers, Jim (Valerie), Marion Bridge and Brian, Burlington, Ontario.
John was predeceased by a brother, Reg and a granddaughter, Stephanie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service will be held in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown. The time and date of the funeral service will be announced in Monday's edition of the Cape Breton Post.
