
Joyce Crawford
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Joyce Crawford age 82 of Amherst on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Gables Lodge, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Amherst, NS on June 7, 1930, Joyce was a daughter of the late Johnson L. and Jennie B. (Napper) Ripley.
Over the years Joyce worked as a secretary for Robb’s Engineering, Employment and Unemployment Insurance office with the federal government, Dorchester Penitentiary, where she was proud to be the first female hired, Union Carbide and Ray Crawford Roofing and Siding Ltd.
She was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge in Amherst for many years, and a supportive member of the Trinity St. Stephen`s United Church. In her younger years, Joyce was part of the Thursday Night Women Bowling League.
Joyce will sadly missed by her daughter, Lynn Ann Crawford, Amherst; son, Alan (Wendy), Pumping Station Rd; beloved grandchildren, Johnny-Ray Crawford, Jennie and Julia Crawford; brother, Raymond J. (Carolyn) Ripley, Amherst; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her children’s father, C. Ray Crawford in 2010.
No visitation by request.
A private graveside service will be held in the Amherst Cemetery at a later date.
