Albert Poirier

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Albert Joseph Poirier, a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Facility.
He was a member of St. Eugene’s Parish in Dominion. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Glace Bay.
Albert was the long time proprietor of Al’s Dairy located on Commercial Street in Dominion.
Albert was predeceased by his wife Annie in 2006. He is survived by his children, Anne Lorraine (Bernard) McSavaney, Calgary, Bobbi (Craig O’Neill), Dominion, Joey (Donna), Dominion, Francine (Dwight) Little, Dominion, Laura, Dominion, Bernice (Roberto Fuentes), Sydney, special family friend, Joann McNeil; grandchildren, Tracey and Dale, Lisa, Tara, Michelle, Aimee, Stacie (Randy Coghlin), Ryan and Michael; great grandchildren Nicholas and Aydan. Also surviving is brother, Simon (Cy); sisters, Catherine Muise Vienneau, Pauline (Jim Ferguson) and Madeline (Lennie Cormier).
Besides his wife and parents, Albert was predeceased by his sisters, Jay, Marie, Lorraine, Margaret and Bea and brothers, Johnny, Henry and Jerry.
Albert was an avid card player and participated in many catholic choirs in his lifetime. He loved the opportunity to visit his family in Cheticamp and practice his native tongue, French.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Friday December 7, 2012 from 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. The Glace Bay Council Knights of Columbus will assemble at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Saint Eugene’s Church in Dominion.
As an expression of sympathy for Albert, donations may be made to Seaview Manor in Glace Bay or a charity of choice.
