It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, nanny and great-grandnanny, Katherine Mae Pickering, who passed away on Dec. 8, 2012, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay.
Born in Donkin on Aug. 3, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Murdock and Mary Belle (Munroe) McIntosh.
Katherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons, Alfred (Doreen), Carl (Theresa); daughter, Judy (Harold) McKeigan; grandchildren, Richard, Cathy, Derek (Karen), Cory (Kristina); great-grandchildren, Brody, Sam, Kayla, Colby, Tyler, Trey, Max and Gabby.
Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Pickering (1984), brother, Malcolm, sister, Annie Donovan.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Following the burial, all are invited to join the family for a reception in St. Anthony’s Parish Hall.
The family would like to extend their thanks to staff at Seaview Manor and Dr. Kent Cadegan for the care given to their mom throughout the years. Also, thanks go out to Katherine’s special friends, Viola and Susan and to her niece, Joan.
Memorial donations in Katherine's name can be made to Seaview Manor or to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
