Lynne Geddes

GEDDES, LYNNE - It is with deepest sadness that the family announces the passing of Lynn (Lynne) Girvan Geddes, on Tuesday, December 18th at the Moncton City Hospital, from complications of ovarian cancer. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of Robert Ronald Geddes (d 1962) and Isabel Anne Girvan (d 2008), and the step-daughter of Alton Gerard (Gerry) Gardner, Shediac Road. In addition to her step-father, Lynne is survived by her beloved sister Lee Irene Geddes, her beloved daughter, Aynsley Lee Anne Geddes, and her precious uncle, Don Girvan, all of Moncton. Loved and spoiled family doggies, Riley and Emma, will both miss their "Mummy" very much. Lynne had a very successful career embracing both public and private sectors. Her first of many relocations was to Dartmouth when Aynsley was only one year old, the beginning of a life-long career in the field of Human Resources, which began with Transport Canada. Climbing the ladder took Lynne to visit many places throughout Canada, and besides Dartmouth, she and Aynsley had the opportunity to live in Gander, Newfoundland; Edmonton, Alberta; and Ottawa, Ontario at various times in her life. Lynne kept in touch with many of the friends she had made over the years and so leaves behind quite a wide network of friends right across the country. Before returning to Moncton in 2011, Lynne lived in Ottawa for 12 years where she held senior positions with Nav Canada, Hydro Ottawa (as Vice-President Human Resources) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) as Executive Director, National Human Resources Services. Lynne loved music, good food and wine shared with great friends, as well as travelling. She travelled to other countries when she could, having recently enjoyed three weeks in Portugal and Italy with her dear friend Jill Moody. Lynne travelled throughout Italy, France and England, and attended French classes near Paris. One of her most memorable trips was to Greece with Anne Marie Mann-Mason in 1999. Through Anne Marie's connections, they stayed with extended family and friends and thus saw some of "authentic" Greece. Lynne also loved the sun and travelled to her wonderful getaway of Barbados a total of 11 times. In keeping with Lynne's wishes, there will be a visitation before the funeral as well as a reception to be held afterwards. Before she died, Lynne said she hoped this would give everyone an excuse to get together again--especially her Harrisville/Shediac Road friends--for a celebration in her name. Her only regret was that she would not be able to attend! The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Pam Mansfield and Dr. John Park, and the caring nurses at the Palliative Care unit of the Moncton Hospital, whose dedicated care and concern also extended to the family. A very special thank you to close friends Jill, Bernie, Patti and Anne Marie, for all of their help and support, especially over the past weeks.
Body is resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home, where visitation will take place from on Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. A Celebration of Life Service for Lynne will be held at St. John’s United Church, corner of Church and Alma Street, Moncton, on Friday at 2:00 p.m., with The Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Reception to be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home in the Garden View Reception Room following the service and interment. She will be laid to rest next to her loving mother at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Lynne loved flowers, but in her memory, you may prefer to donate to the St. John's United Church Building Fund (Moncton) or the St. Andrew's United Church Restoration Project (Rexton). Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530. An online book of condolences is available to sign at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
