MITTON, MAVIS M. - Mavis M. Mitton, 82, of Riverview, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012. Born in Curryville, she was the daughter of the late Sterling and Aggie (Steeves) Downey. Mavis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was a member of Coverdale United Church and a Life Member of the UCW. Mavis was a Life Member and Past President of the Coverdale Women’s Institute and was the recipient of the Commemorative Medal to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. She was a former member of the I.O.D.E. and enjoyed cooking, quilting, word puzzles, was an avid CBC listener, a staunch supporter of the New Brunswick Liberal Party and enjoyed socializing with her family and friends. Mavis will be sadly missed by her children, Susan Carroll (George Wilson) of Riverview, Grant Mitton (Cathie) of Riverview, Jane Mitton-MacLean (John MacLean) of Moncton; precious grandchildren, Dave Mitton, Faith Nicholson (Ron), Karen Mitton and MacKenzie Carroll; cherished great grandchildren, Morgan and Haley; sisters, Dorothy Meldrum (Wendell), Rowena Brown (Reg), Marilyn MacKenzie (Jim); brother, Don Downey (Jean); sister-in-law, Gwen Downey; brother-in-law, Ken Mitton (Jean); several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ron C. Mitton (2007); brothers, Ralph and Cerdic.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Danny Compton officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment, Wesleyan Union Cemetery, Riverview.
