George Leonard Larkham

It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Leonard, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, on Dec. 16, 2012, at home.
A ‘Jack of All Trades’, even though he suffered from Polio disease, there was nothing he couldn’t tackle, which inspired his family. He was the one to call if something was broken, no matter what time of the day or night. If you were upset, he was always there to listen with arms open for that special hug to make things right again.
He and Shirley loved listening to their music, especially Leonard’s ‘Harry Hibbs’ and also their Christmas songs. In his earlier years, he worked in the bootleg mines, then he began working for Ivan Crowdis Auto Repair for many years. He also worked for Marg’s Taxi, then had to retire from the workforce due to health reasons. His biggest job was looking after his family, which he did with pride. A former resident of Tower Road, he greatly enjoyed the reunion held this past summer, reminiscing with friends and neighbours.
Survived by grandchildren, raised as his own son and daughter, Rhonda (James) Kelloway, at home, Lenny (Lindsey) MacInnis, Glace Bay; daughter, Adeline (Jed) MacDonald; son, Art (Lynnette) MacInnis, New Waterford; grandchildren, Gerry (Jean) MacDonald, Nikki MacDonald, Sarah MacInnis (mother Felicity); great-grandchildren; his best buddy who lived with him, Nathan McInnis, Keegan, Connor, George, John, Noah, Brody and poppy’s girl, JessLynn; brothers, Ronald, Halifax, Robert, Ontario; cousin and friend, Jimmy (Shelly) Currie; brothers-in-law, Butch (who was like his brother) Gould, Archie (Mary) Gould, Albert Gould, Wes (Mabel) Gould, Jack Daisley; sisters-in-law, Chris, Claire, Carolyn Gould and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Shirley, parents, Rita and Sonny Aucoin, grandmother, Sarah Jane Larkham, sister, Rose Spinney and nephew, Billy Spinney.
A graveside service on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Anthony Church Cemetery, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.
