PICTOU LANDING FIRST NATION – Frank Bernard, age 81, of Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 19th, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Pictou Landing First Nation, he was a son of the late Chief William and Annie M. (Syliboy) Bernard.
Frank lived most of his life in Pictou Landing First Nation except for 15 years he lived in Framingham, Mass.
During his working years he worked doing landscaping. Frank was a member of the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame for Native Hockey. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed camping on Indian Island and was dedicated to traditional pow-wow’s.
Surviving are: brother Leonard Bernard of Pictou Landing First Nation; sister: Katherine Helstowski of Wisconsin; brother: Colin Bernard of Pictou Landing First Nation; sisters: Mary Gladys Bernard of Pictou Landing First Nation; Bernadette Marie Bernard of Pictou Landing First Nation; Mary Elizabeth (Allan) Francis of Pictou Landing First Nation. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother Bernie Bernard; a sister Yvonne Marie Bernard; a sister Mary Agnes and a brother Patrick in infancy
His remains will rest in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pictou Landing First Nation for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, from where funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Frank may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Fund, Indian Island Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
