Lola Stevenson

STEVENSON, LOLA ANNA - 1923 - 2012 - It is with great sadness that the family of Lola Stevenson announces her death on December 26th, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on September 19th, 1923, in Barnstable, Massachusetts, she was the wife of the late Dr. Lorne John Stevenson. Lola was a graduate of nursing from the Springfield Hospital of Nursing in Springfield, MA. Her passion for Swedish cooking was well known and she had a reputation for making the best chocolate chip cookies in the neighborhood. She loved playing Bridge, gardening and delighted in feeding the birds that would visit. Lola’s desire to give back to society was evidenced by her commitment of time and energy to both the New Brunswick Children’s Foundation and the Red Cross of New Brunswick. She had a special bond with the New Brunswick Children’s Foundation and was most proud of her work as Secretary (1977-1985) and then President (1986-1992). Her connection with the Red Cross stemmed from her nursing background and the Red Cross’s important involvement within the medical community. Lola leaves behind her children, Judi (Kevin) Ritchie of Fredericton and Donald (Peggy) Stevenson of Florida; grandchildren, Hannah of Washington, DC and Carli, Ava and Celene of Florida; sister and brother-in-law Lou-Ann (Jim) Johnson of Bristol, Connecticut; and sister-in-law Joan McLeod of Truro, Nova Scotia. In addition to her husband, Lorne John, Lola was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Dickson-Stevenson and her parents; Paul and Agnus Johnson of Springfield, Massachusetts. The family is forever grateful for the loving and devoted care that Lola received during her final stay at the Chalmers Hospital. The family would like to say a special thank-you to her family doctor in Saint John – Dr. William Irving as well as the staff of 3NE, Dr. Patrick Feltmate and Dr. Heather Logan. The family would also like to thank the staff at Shannex for their wonderful care and support
A memorial reception, for family and friends, is scheduled for January 7th between 2 to 4pm at Shadow Lawn located in Rothesay, NB. A graveside private family service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the New Brunswick Children’s Foundation or the New Brunswick Red Cross. Online condolences can be sent at www.mcadamsfh.com, 458-9170.
