MARTINDALE, William (Bill) February 20, 1930 - December 26, 2012. It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Martindale announces his passing on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012. His four and a half year struggle with cancer has ended as he passed away at the Special Care Home in Gull Lake, SK. Bill was born in Ogema, SK on February 20, 1930 to Edward and Lily Martindale. Bill came to Gull Lake in 1952 with intentions of playing ball and never returning. He met his future wife and never left for the next 60 years. He spent those years playing baseball, golfing, farming and was a member of the Elks for 50 years. A lot of his time was also spent up at Cypress Hills at “the cabin”. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Fran (Bester) Martindale; his son Barry (Sherry Collier) Martindale; his grandchildren Erin (John) Brett and her children Tristan and Mackenzie Olson; Lisa (Chris) McEachen; Cara (Derek) Jahnke and their children Aiden, Elliot and Ainsley; Shay (Heidi McManus) Martindale and their son Hudson; brothers Bryan Martindale and Curt (Marilyn) Martindale; sister-in-law Pat (Bester) Barnett and brother-in-law Don (Pat Piechotta) Bester. Bill is predeceased by his parents Edward and Lily Martindale; his son Edward Joseph Martindale; his father and mother-in-law Frank and Anne Bester; and sister-in-law Jeannie Martindale. A celebration of life was held at the Elks Hall in Gull Lake, SK on Dec. 29, 2012. Bruce Borden was the Master of Ceremonies, the eulogy was read by Bill’s grandchildren, the greeters were Cal Jensen and Bentley Gibson, Betty and Lloyd Klassen sat at the guest book and the pianist was Sharon Dahl. The interment service will be held at a later date. The family has requested that donations be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Home Auxiliary or to the Autumn House.
