Willie Eliot, resident of Dorchester and Charlottetown, on May 20, 2008, at Sackville Memory Hospital, died peacefully after suffering a stroke. Educator, historian, musician and family man, Willie conducted constantly during his final days. He was 79 years old. Willie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; two siblings, Lorn and Sarah; four children, Charles, Nicholas, Johanna and Luke; and 11 grandchildren, Isobel, Henry, Adam, Matthew, David, Liam, Sam, Sophie, Jack, Harry and Alexa. Brother, Jack, and daughter, Sophia, predeceased him. The President Emeritus of the University of Prince Edward Island was an avid musician, and had a passion for Canadian art, architecture and history. A tireless champion of Maritime heritage preservation, he was awarded the Order of Canada in 1993 for his lifetime “significant contributions to the academic world, as well as to his local community’. A June memorial concert at the University of Prince Edward Island is being planned. In July his ashes will be consigned to the garden in Dorchester at an event for family and friends.
