McLAUGHLIN, ARTHUR - Arthur Bernard McLaughlin passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2013. Born October 6, 1928 in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Leo and Theresa (Murphy) McLaughlin. He is survived by his beloved wife Florence (Hannah) McLaughlin; sons Daniel (Anne Marie), Donald, and Patrick (Denise) all of Saint John; daughters Catherine and Jacqueline of Saint John; grandchildren Shawn, Alicia, Danielle, Cassandra, Shaunna, Steven and Shannon; great grandchildren Braden, Brooklynn and Bryce; brother John of Quispamsis and sisters-in-law Catherine McLaughlin and Patsy Hannah of Saint John; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers William, Gerard, Donald, Frankie and Pat McLaughlin; sisters Helen McLaughlin and Theresa Harrington. Art was a proud firefighter with the Saint John Fire Department where he was known as “Footsie,” active from 1955-1984 and serving as a lieutenant. He was also an active volunteer throughout his life, serving with Epilepsy New Brunswick, the Liberal Party of Canada and New Brunswick as well as being on the board of director’s at the Simonds and Ken Val Co-Op.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road. (646-2424) with visiting Monday, January 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, Saint John, NB on Tuesday, January 15 at 11 A.M. A time of fellowship and light refreshment will follow at the H.O.P.E Centre. Donations in Art's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Epilepsy New Brunswick or the Charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
