Leta McBurnie

McBurnie, Leta Muriel - 93, Springhilll. It is with heavy hearts that the McBurnie family must announce the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2013 with family at her side at the age of 93. Born in Springhill on May 7, 1919, Leta was a daughter of the late Millard R. and Rosanna L. (Brown) Skidmore. Leta graduated in 1940 from All Saints Springhill Hospital Nursing School and was very respected by hospital staff and patients in her long career. While her children were young she stayed at home and ran a convenience store out of the home until later returning to nursing. She was an active volunteer for the Springhill Chapter of the Kidney Foundation, a PC of the Pythian Star Temple #8, PNG of the Lady Minto Rebecca Lodge #23, PIR of the Nomads of EI Shebab Santha #21 and also enjoyed her card club family for over 50 years. Leta enjoyed bowling and curling, and was always ready to join in a song. Her love of nature can be seen every year through "Leta's Lupins" at Sandy Cove. Leta (aka Skid to many) is survived by her son, Mick (Rae) and daughter, Pat (Dave Perry); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tricia and Brad Bain with Brecken, Olivia and Keanen; Jason and Mandy with Ryan, Micheal, Brooklyn and Aidan; Keri and Darryl Chandler with Damon, Cole and Camden; Kim McBurnie with Austin and Macy; Chuck and Wendy with Mattix and Ainsley; Marni and Amos Walsh with Ryder, Mickinlee and baby bump; and youngest grandson Mitch.
