HARDING, Ollie Evangeline, R.N. – 88, of Yarmouth, passed away January 12, 2013 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. It is with great sadness that we must say good-bye. Born March 12, 1924 in Clyde River, “Where the River Meets the Sea”, Ollie was a daughter of the late George and Helena Nicoll. Ollie was always destined to help others as she entered the Yarmouth School of Nursing at the tender age of 18. She worked tirelessly and always committed herself. After many years as a Floor Nurse and then the Associate Director of Nursing, she retired in 1989. Her true passion was her family. Her kindness and tender way was always evident through good and painful times. She was the foundation we all grew to love and respect. She was a very humble and non-judgmental human being. She truly was the Salt of the Earth. She had an amazing memory, particularly for people and names. She loved a good card game and lunch with the girls. Her laughter and ability to maintain peace was truly a gift. She loved to travel and visit, yet Summerville Beach was her retreat. The ocean called in a way that put a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Surviving is her loving daughter, Linda, who was forever at Ollie’s side. We all thank Linda for her ability to love and give so much of herself. Also surviving is sister, Daisy Cameron, Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Kay Harding, Dartmouth; son-in-law, David Gordon, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Hannah Harding, Jolene Gordon, and Michael Devine, all of Dartmouth; as well as her pride and joy, her great-grandchildren, Austin and Abbigail, both of Dartmouth; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her kindness has also touched many friends who have always remained at her side, particularly Carolyn and Earl Robicheau, who became family. She was predeceased by her husband, Lendall; her three out of four children, Nancy, Janice and Brian; as well as a grandson, Brian John, all of which brought great sadness. She was also predeceased by sister, Dot Adams and brother, Harold Turner. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. There was no visitation by Ollie’s request. A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 16 at 11 a.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Many thanks to the kind nurses on 3-South at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, the physicians who cared so much, as well as the girls of Treasured Memories; they were real treasures to her. Ollie touched our hearts with love, kindness and laughter. May she find a higher ground where the breezes blow soft and the sun shines brightly.
