ANDRES: It is with sadness that the family of Anne Sarah (née Penner) Andres, age 75, announces the passing of a beloved step-mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Anne was born on September 6, 1937, in the Rural School District of Rosefarm, a few miles south of Herbert, SK. She grew up on her parents’ farm as the youngest of seven siblings. Her baptism was held at the Greenfarm Church where she later taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She attended Rosefarm School right to the end of high school, which she took by correspondence. After graduating, Anne took a business course out of Regina, also by correspondence. She rented a typewriter so that she could take the courses out of her own home. Anne moved to Swift Current where she worked as a bank teller. This vocation also took her to Weyburn and Lethbridge for brief periods of time. She worked for the CKSW radio station in Swift Current for about five years, writing advertisements and soliciting ads from businesses. After working for the radio she became the librarian at the Herbert High School. Anne loved people, especially children and teens, and she was very well suited to this work. Anne met Jacob Andres at a wedding in Swift Current where they were both single guests. They took an immediate liking to one another and were married eight months later, on a gloriously warm winter day, December 27th, 1980, in Herbert, SK. Anne and Jacob enjoyed each other greatly. They loved to go places together and traveled to Cuba and Mexico. Anne became the manager for the Rosthern Fellowship Bookstore and was an active member in the Rosthern Mennonite Church. The couple moved to Saskatoon a few months before Jacob died in October of 1987. Anne remained in Saskatoon for several years, working for Ten Thousand Villages, which she continued to work for on a seasonal basis after moving to Swift Current to be closer to friends and family. Anne was a straightforward kind of person, determined, and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She was mischievous and loved to tease. She also enjoyed quiet activities such as reading and knitting. Her grandchildren fondly remember the peppernuts she used to bake every year at Christmas. Anne is survived by her step-children, Edward, Ronald and Magdalene Andres; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her siblings, Mary, Elizabeth, Henry and Lena; and by many nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10:00 am from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home with David Neufeld as MC. The prelude was played by harpist, Teyana Neufeld. The pianist for the service was Sandy Andres with special music brought by David and Teyana Neufeld singing, “Hymn from Pincher Creek“. The eulogy shared by Ed Andres and Maggie Andres. Tribute to Grandma Anne was brought by Lauren Andres with Tribute to Aunt Anne brought by Mary Leister and by a PowerPoint presentation by Conrad, Jaylene, Yvonne, Ron Andres and Jonah Neufeld. “In the Bulb There Is a Flower” and “When Peace Like a River” were sung by the congregation. Scripture was read from 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and John 14:1-6 by Jaylene Andres. The meditation was shared by Pastor Glen Gerbrandt. The ushers were Ezra Neufeld and Eric Adamson. In memory of Anne Andres, donations made to the Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
