COTTREAU, Charles Urban – 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home at the Meadows in Yarmouth. Born May 16, 1933 in Yarmouth the son of the late Charles A. Cottreau and Mary Lydia (Amiro) Cottreau. Charles Urban (Chuck), grew up in the South End of town and enjoyed hunting ducks off of Bunkers Island with his grandfather, Reuban. At the age of 19, Charles joined the Air Force and served in Germany from 1959 to 1962, after which he served in France. He returned to Canada in 1963 and was posted to Greenwood. He served at several bases and retired in Moose Jaw, Sask. On retiring from the military, he was employed with the transit system, and retired from driving city buses in Moose Jaw. Charles had a passion for hunting, fishing, wood carving and traveling. Come fall, he would often make a road trip from Moose Jaw to Yarmouth for his feed of lobsters. Charles will be sadly missed by his niece, Bev Boudreau, who over the past seven years, took care of his needs and kept him well supplied of his Jersey Milk bars. Charles is survived by his beloved oldest sister, Barbara (Walter) Brown of Apex, NC, and sister, Bernice Somers. He is also survived by three children, Michael, Denise and Lee; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Cottreau. Barbara and Bev would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff of The Meadows, and also to North Queens Nursing home in Caledonia for their friendship and support, making sure all his needs were met. Also, thank you to Dr. Horton for all her care, and for being there with Nurse Wendy when he passed. Visitation took place from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Friday, January 18. A Royal Canadian Legion service was held at 12:45, immediately followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., all at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Yarmouth. Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Veteran’s Place (Yarmouth) or to a charity of choice.
