CAMMER, Patricia (Pat) Yvonne (Ditner). Pat passed away peacefully at the Gull Lake Special Care Home on January 10, 2013 at the age of 85 with her daughter, Sherry, at her side. Pat is survived by her children, Sherry Olson of Webb, Neil (Lou) of Webb, Heather (Neil) of Coaldale, AB and Brent (Noreen) of Webb, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ross, parents Richard and Viola Ditner, twin brother and sister in infancy, and son-in-law Marvin Olson. Pat was born at Kelstern on September 30, 1927 and held many fond memories of her childhood in Antelope with her grandparents nearby. She took a business course after grade eleven and came to Webb to work for Stuart Robertson in the Municipal Office. Eventually Mr. Robertson became involved in the formation of a new health scheme called Health Region #1 and Pat was his secretary. What an interesting time! Later a tall handsome farmer at Webb caught her eye and she married Ross Cammer in 1947. She was a city girl and admitted she could have written volumes about her experiences as a greenhorn farm housewife. Her cowboy poetry often incorporated these experiences. The arrival of their four children made for a busy household. Pat often said the best years of her life were raising children on the farm. She enjoyed her grandchildren so much. Allison remembers when Grandma drove into Webb one winter night to show Melissa, Angelee and Allison the biggest, brightest blue moon ever. On went the ski pants and coats over the pajamas and they proceeded to make a snowman under the perfect prairie sky. Jessica remembers that Grandma had keys to the museum and special access to the fair grounds. She often had her picture in the paper accepting donations for the Alzheimer Society. Beauden remembers Grandma's paintings and the beautiful flowers in her backyard on Burke Crescent. Melissa remembers carving out snow forts with Grandma, Gray Boy the cat and Bize the dog in the monstrous snow drifts in her yard. Later there was home-made hot chocolate in the big yellow happy face mug. Angelee remembers what an ardent fan Grandma was of "Dallas" and how she phoned the television station one night when it didn't come on at the regular time. Garnet remembers Grandma's passion for fishing in summer and winter. She even had battery powered socks to keep her feet warm so she could ice fish longer. He remembers her gingersnap cookies and chokecherry syrup. Deanna remembers garage "saleing" on Saturdays. Later Grandma helped outfit several college apartments with newfound treasures. She offered wise advice about life and living. Ross and Pat retired to Swift Current in 1981 and Ross passed away in 1991. Pat had a real knack for storytelling and there were many stories: her first trip to the automatic car wash that cost her a windshield, the time a naked man appeared on her doorstep late one night and her speeding ticket which she refused to pay and did community service for instead. Throughout her life Pat was a woman of service dedicated towards a better future for all. She accomplished much in her life as demonstrated through her lifetime Alzheimer's membership and her proud participation in establishing Health Region #1. She worked with many great people in writing the Webb history book and was always ready to fundraise for local events and charities. She compiled an extensive genealogy of her father's family, the Ditners, while a member of the Swift Current Genealogy Society. She served the United Church for most of her adult life through the UCW and church council. One of her many contributions was decorating and furnishing the board room in First United Church. She will always be remembered for her artistic creativity, whether it was writing skits for the annual Alzheimer's show or her paintings, copper tooling, cowboy poetry,and general ability to make something out of nothing. She was a beautiful seamstress who designed her own patterns from her "mind's eye". She will be remembered for her strong work ethic and joy of life. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on through her family and friends. The memorial service was held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 2:00 pm at First United Church in Swift Current with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. Organist was Patti McCleary. Ushers were Eunice Moerk and Ron Olson. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, the family would gratefully acknowledge donations to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of the donor's choice. Warrens Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
